Residential Roofing Checklist Spring CleaningAfter a long, Dallas-Fort Worth winter, we are happy to be able to get some sun at last. While the weather is perfect for Texas, now is a great time to tick off your spring cleaning checklists. Yes, cleaning the house and yard is important, but so is checking your roof.
Spring is the perfect time to take care of any residential roofing needs. However, you need to know what you should be looking for. Here are our five tips for your roofing spring cleaning checklist.

1. Check the Soffit and Fascia

The metal or wood panels that line the underside of the roof are called soffits. Fasciae are metal or wood boards that rest on the roofline or directly behind the eavestrough.  The average residential roofer can easily point out these spots on your roof that most homeowners may miss. The soffits and fascia are crucial for your roof to remain sturdy.
Signs of deterioration that could lead to repair or replacement are:

  • Soft areas
  • Holes
  • Damaged areas

2. Look Out for Water Damage

Water damage is the most visible and obvious sign that you are in need of a residential roofing company. Even though we haven’t had a snowy winter, as of late, DFW has seen its fair share of rainfall. You may even have the makings of a roof leak and not even know it. Look for signs of a leak in your home next rainfall. If you do see one, make sure it receives immediate attention. Sitting water can rot your roof and destroy insulation.

3. Clean Out Gutters

Cleaning out your gutters not only helps your roof, but it is also a great way to maintain general wellness on your property by preventing a flooded foundation. Over the winter, your gutters have most likely built up a hefty wall of leaves and other tree debris.
While it is nice out, feel free to clear out your gutters and make sure that the next spring rainfall makes its way off of your property.

4. Get Your Shingles Inspected

Checking for roof damage around your shingles doesn’t have to be a dangerous job. You can observe from the ground with binoculars and see and missing shingles or shingles that seem buckled or smooth. If you notice any signs of damaged shingles, contact your local residential roofing company to schedule an inspection to assess any damage.

5. Schedule Residential Roofing Repairs ASAP

Finding problems with your roof is only the first step to solving your problem. We suggest not wasting your time by attempting a DIY job on your roof. Only a certified roofing company will be able to pinpoint the exact problem that you are experiencing with your roof.
If you find a problem, do not wait to let it become worse. Reach out to a professional to handle your repair or replacement.
